Robot Mesh Studio Desktop fills the need for a programming environment that can be used without an Internet connection. Robot Mesh Studio online is not available without an Internet connection, and school gyms, the primary venue for VRC and VEX IQ tournaments, tend not to have reliable Internet access. With RMS Desktop, you can either pull down an offline copy of online projects, or upload offline projects to Robot Mesh Studio Online. It is intended to give you the best parts of both offline and web-based access.
Robot Mesh Studio Desktop installs from its .msi installer package. The only choice to make is where to install it. Once that is accomplished, the next step is to log in to your Robot Mesh Studio account, or make one if you don't have one. Click the Log In button at the top right:
Once you are logged in, the My Projects box should populate with your online Robot Mesh Studio projects:
No access to user\Documents folder, or user\Documents folder has been redirected - Robot Mesh Studio Desktop will attempt to create a folder called RobotMesh inside the current user’s home directory\Documents. If the user has a redirected documents folder somewhere else, and you wish files to be stored there, then you can pass a command line argument to Robot Mesh Studio Desktop to tell it where to store files. The option is --storage-path="pathname", so "C:\Program Files (x86)\RobotMesh\RobotMeshStudioDesktop\RobotMeshStudioDesktop.exe" --storage-path="c:\temp\rms" will store user programs in C:\temp\rms, trying to create the directory if it doesn’t exist.
To create an offline copy of a project, drag the project from the My Projects box to the Local Projects box:
This will create a local copy of the project, and will not delete it from the list of online projects:
